Carlo Krieger is the Ambassador of the Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg in Brazil (2018-2022).

Juscelino Kubitschek

Juscelino, also known by his initials JK, was born in Diamantina, Minas Gerais in 1902. Before becoming Brazilian President from 1956-1961, he was the Mayor of Belo Horizonte (1940-1945) and Governor of Minas Gerais (1951-1956). Juscelino Kubitschek is the father of Brasilia and famous for his ambitious programme "50 in 5", 50 years of progress in 5 years of presidency. Kubitschek died of a car accident in 1971. The reason of his death has been repeatedly questioned.

Adrienne is the eldest granddaughter of Albert Scharlé and is currently living in São Paulo.

Belo Horizonte

Belo Horizonte was founded in 1897 to replace the colonial city of Ouro Preto as the new capital of the State of Minas Gerais. Belo Horizonte is the country's first planned modern city.

Albert Scharlé

Albert Scharlé (1898-1956) was a Luxembourgish engineer working at Belgo Mineira since 1929. He succeeded Louis Ensch as general director of the company until his sudden death in 1956.

João Monlevade plant

On 31 August 1935, the founding stone of Belgo Mineira's steel plant in João Monlevade was laid. The construction of this steel plant attracted thousands of workers and engineers from various different countries to João Monlevade seeking new job opportunities.

Joseph Hein

Joseph Hein (1902-1983) was born in 1902 in Belvaux and moved to Brazil in 1934. Hein was Belgo Mineira's general director from 1956 to 1974. He died tragically in 1983 while being attacked by bees in his fazenda.

Carlo Panunzi

Carlo Panunzi was born in Italy, grew up in Southern Luxembourg and was the last Luxembourgish general director of Belgo Mineira.

Jean-Armand Scharlé is the eldest son of Albert Scharlé. He has also worked at Belgo Mineira in João Monlevade.

Paulo Henrique de Vasconcelos is the Honorary Consul of Luxembourg in Belo Horizonte and married to Marianna Scharlé.

Brasilia

Brasilia was founded in 1960 by the mineiro president Juscelino Kubitschek to become the new Brazilian capital. The planned city located in the central-western Brazilian highlands and was conceived by the Brazilian architects Lucio Costa and Oscar Niemeyer.
